Powering PLC via productivity 1000 or CPU pins

The manual says that the modules should either be powered through the productivity1000 power supply OR through the 24V DC pins on the bottom of the CPU module. However, I can only get my PLC to work if both of these are powered at the same time. Why would that be?

    It appears that your trying to power the P1-01AC power supply with a 24Vdc source instead of P1-01DC power supply. P1 pwr supply configuration So Ive attached a picture to the following of some conventional ways to power a P1AM-100 This would be the same power configurations for a P1-540 and P1-550 as z28z34man mentioned this is ok when using 8 or less I/O modules.When using 8 to 15 modules change the power supply to a P1-02AC power supply.

    Some modules required external power. Please show a wiring diagram. What you're saying doesn't really make sense.

    Are you using a vanilla P1, like P1-540 or P1-550?

    Or are you using the spicy variant P1AM-100?

    Please post pictures of your setup.

      We are using P1AM-100. I will post a picture of our wiring setup.

    The P1000 PSU that I have blocks off the bottom 24v DC ports with a piece of plastic. I couldnt even wire both if I wanted to. Hmm. Perhaps post a picture or two of your setup and let us know the actual PLC model you are using?

    If you read following the Note shown below from page 2-11 of the P1000 module. That the 24V pins at the bottom of the CPU is only used to power the CPU as an input power only and not to be used as an external 24V source to provide field side power to I/O modules.

     

    So there's two ways to power a CPU:

     

    1) You can power the CPU with a 24vdc connected to the input pins located at bottom of CPU.

     

    2) Or power up the CPU with a P1-01AC power supply as an example.

     

    Either or just not both.

     

    Once you got your CPU powered up. Now you can connect your

    external power (field side power) to I/O modules separately from you CPU power source .

     

    If your using 24vdc to power your CPU just use a separate 24V source to power your I/O modules.

      I saw this note as well which is why I was confused. In order to get the system to work and execute our code, we have to power both P1AM-100 and P1-01AC. We are using 24V DC to power both the P1-01AC module and the P1AM-100 module.wholeSystemp1am-100P1-01AC module

        The P1-01AC takes line voltage AC power into it and provides 24v power to the PLC, you cannot power the PSU with 24 and get more 24 from it.

        You cant power a P1-01AC power supply with 24vdc source. In the picture the P1AM-100 is only getting power from the bottom 24vdc pins

        If you want to power the unit with DC through the P1-01AC, you'll need 125VDC.

    The P1-01AC and the P1-01DC are for applications up to 8 IO modules. The P1-02AC is for up to 15 IO modules. the P1-02AC Is labeled at 26W output so as long as you have a power supply on the bottom terminals has more than 26W available it should be able to support up to 15 IO modules.
