Todd Dice (Customer) asked a question.
As the title states, occasionally when I power up a Click Plus, the error light is flashing. I go online and the warning is for battery low voltage. But when I go online and look at bit SC28, it is OFF. I am seeing this on a C2-03CPU and on a C2-01CPU. Now, the batteries are brand new and read 3-volts by a multi-meter. I note the PLCs don't go to fault and still run, but the flashing error light is concerning, especially if my boss sees this as he he is one to freak out over things like this.
So, here's how I'm seeing this: place a program in a Click Plus, leave the switch in RUN, power it down for a week, then power it back up and see what the error light does. Hopefully, AD can replicate this and find a solution.
Thanks!
Don't disable it, you are ruining your batteries by continuing to use it. Its fatal for a lithium battery to drop below a certain voltage and in certain rare occasions can upset the chemistry inside the cell starting a runaway condition that puffs the cell and can potentialy cause a fire. If I remember correctly these radios will shut themselves down before that.
We'll take a look at this.
@ravi (Customer) Lithium button cells are discharged all the time w/o issues. What you're describing is extremely unlikely.
Short term tests have not duplicated it. Is the equipment typically down for a week?
Do you power up in Run or Stop mode?
It's a Click Plus (C2-03CPU, I love the wireless feature!) mounted in a briefcase used to create and test programs at home, so it's typically in the powered off state. It remains in Run mode when not powered and is in Run when I power it up. But this is not the only Click I've seen with this behavior.
Here at my employer, I developed THIS product (Sure Fill) and its operated by a Click Plus (C2-01CPU) with operator input via a 3-inch C-more Micro connected to the serial port. When our technicians build these units, they are preprogrammed and stored in inventory for resale. My boss tests every unit before it leaves our factory, and during his test last week of just one unit, I noticed the ERR light flashing while it not placing the CPU in fault.
Let me ask this as I want to make certain I cover all possibilities: what if, while CPU is in a powered off state, the battery door is opened to confirm battery existence, door closed, PLC is powered up, and in the PLC code, I'm using a NO contact of bit SC28 (battery low)? In my logic, SC28 changes the C-more Micro screen color to red, PLC code toggles the beep, and a low battery message displays. In both instances (my Click at home, and the Click for the Sure Fill), I have logic tied to bit SC28.
I just want to know if it's my code causing the issue, or something else.
Thanks!
I've tried that with no luck reproducing. both having SC28 in the logic and removing the battery momentarily. You should be able to remove the battery for up to 10 minutes if the unit has been on for at least 10 minutes.
I'll try short times.
Well, maybe it's just me...
Happening now. C2-01CPU. At what voltage would this warning appear?
I am curious if you ever figured anything out on this issue. I am having the same issue. I put the error off because did not seem to affect anything, but we are starting to see consequences now, I believe. I have tech support looking at it now, but thought I would see if you had any resolutions.
Thank you!
Nothing other than replacing the battery. It seems the Plus is very sensitive to what it considers a low voltage state.
