Accurate Ag (Customer) asked a question.
Hey Everyone,
I am working on setting up a Stridelinx VPN router for the first time, and it is kicking my butt at the moment. Here is what I have done so far.
1) I ran ethernet from an Alley Bradley ethernet hub out to the machine I am setting up for remote access. I hooked my laptop up to make sure I have access to the internet and I do.
2) I put my stridelinx vpn router in place and attempted to set it up, and this is where I am struggling.
My laptop pinged this information on my LAN network.
IP: 192.168.1.123
Gateway: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
So I tried leaving my VPN router set to DHCP and it did not work.
My last attempt I set my VPN up this way:
LAN IP- DHCP
WAN IP: 172.16.1.5
and when that didn't work I tried different variations, including manually setting my router's IP. No matter what I try the indicator light on the VPN router just blinks red with a single red blink.
So here is my question, what am I doing wrong? Am I totally misunderstanding something here?
Thanks in advance.
**Apologeez, I had LAN and WAN backwards.
Have you configured the router yet? The video below describes how to set up and account and load the configuration into the router via USB pen drive:

Yes, that is what I am attempting to do. I followed the instruction manual and set it up, but no matter how I configure it it always flashes the red light.
When configuring my router, here is what I did.
1) I selected wired network.
2) When it asked for my internet IP I left it at DHCP. (I assumed this means my existing network not my VPN)
3) I set my VPN network IP to 172.16.1.*
4) Downloaded the file onto the thumb drive, file name "router" which is what the website set it to.
5) I plugged the USB drive into the router, powered off.
6) Powered the router on and it booted up, the light blinked blue for a moment. Then just blinks red, one slow red blink at a time.
From the page 1-11 in the manual 1 blink red on the ACT indicates vpn is waiting for internet access:

Awesome thank you, though I did go through those trouble shooting guides. According to the link above it says the red blink is either waiting for internet access, the router was configured incorrectly, or the firewall is stopping me.
I have internet access to it, I plugged the ethernet into my laptop and I have access. I can't figure out why my router is not getting internet access.
I would recommend you check with your IT department to make sure the VPN Router is not being blocked.
Well that is an issue. I am setting this up for a customer that does not have an IT department. I have access to their router, how would I tell if it is being blocked? I logged in to it and the boxes were checked to allow VPN.
The bottom port needs to be able to access the internet. It can be through a router. That port is normally left set up for DHCP so it can take an IP address issued by the network router. If the Stridelinx VPN router Internet (bottom) port is plugged into a network that is private and isolated from the internet (very common in industrial controls settings) then it will stay in the state you described.
I have not run into a situation where the Stridelinx blocked by a router. I have run into a few places where I needed to run a separate cable outside the controls LAN to be able to tap into a network that has internet access.
After doing some research, I believe the VPN passthrough is enabled on the router. The router is a Linksys ea7200.
