CLICK Plus PLC intermittent ERR after power cycle

Hello,

I'm using a C2-03CPU. I continuously run into this situation after removing power via. an external power supply. I've used a few different power supplies up to this point, both ~24.2VDC, one with an isolated output, one with a grounded output.

When I turn off the power supply, and then turn it back on (waiting a few seconds, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds...), often times this PLC will boot up with a red ERR light. I've found that a long power off duration (5+ minutes) will clear this issue. If I try to connect to the PLC via. the CLICK programming software during the ERR, it says that the PLC firmware version does not match. It does in fact match, but is displayed with an appended "(Ver0.00)" to "Ver3.41". Screenshots are attached. If I just leave the PLC powered off long enough, this all goes away.

The error log on the PLC lists this for each occurrence:

Error Code: 109

Description: Sub-processor F/W Version Error

It seems to happen somewhat less frequently when I have relay outputs active, so I believe it might be related to how long the power supply takes to go from 24VDC->0VDC. Very anecdotal, but that's my observation. The power supply I'm using now has an off time similar to the CLICK power supplies.

I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this. I would imagine it must have happened to many people, unless I received a PLC that has a real hardware issue. My main concern is that a power cycle or brief power outage in the field would lead to a blocked PLC with this red ERR light.

Edit: just a note, this occurred with 3.40 & 3.41 firmware. Not a recently introduced issue.

Thanks for any help,

Justin

    Hello,

Unfortunately I wasn't able to resolve the issue by adding a battery or otherwise. I ended up returning the C2-03CPU and purchasing a BRX Do-more PLC, which has been more robust.

I can't say I have seen this before. I suggest contacting Technical support. Be ready to provide your hardware configuration. All connection information, Serial, Ethernet, WiFi and USB connections. Do you have a battery installed?

Sending them your project will also help.

You can also provide all of that here and we'll see if we can reproduce the error.

I have a technical support ticket open, but was hoping to get a wider audience since this seems like it would be common, but is apparently not. I don't see anything unique about my setup, and it isn't limited to the downloaded project.

I do not have a battery installed, however. I will add one the next chance I get.

    Thank you,

It could definitely be a hardware issue. Do you have a second CPU you can try?

Please check that you do not have anything connected to the PF terminal on the CPU power. connecting ground to this terminal by mistake has caused some strange behavior or even damage to some CPUs.

I don't have a 2nd CPU to try. I will contact support to see if it's possible to order a 2nd and return one if that ends up proving the issue is hardware.

I don't have the PF terminal connected to anything. I only had an isolated supply with 24V + COM for a few weeks, and then switched to a grounded output a little over a week ago, with the GND terminal now also grounded, but PF still empty. I haven't connected the outputs to anything either, just observing relay status while learning.

I could believe that the battery prevents this issue, which might make it a lot less common.

Have you had any luck with this? I am having the same issue.

@Penguins (Customer)  did you ever see resolution to this issue? Did you replace the CPU or add a battery?
