DE. ENG (Customer) asked a question.
Hi everyone, I have an Allen-Bradley SLC 5/03 PLC. Can anyone confirm the correct software needed? If someone has experience with this PLC, please guide me. If anyone can help with obtaining the software, kindly let me know. Thanks.
This forum is specific to AutomationDirect PLC products. For questions that extend beyond AutomationDirect, consider posting at the link below, which covers a wide range of PLC platforms:

the software is RSLogix 500 but you will need to talk to a Rockwell distributor and with 500 being legacy the license has gotten quite expensive.
The minimum version of RSLogix 500 you need is called the Starter Edition. It does not support online editing and tag usage information among other less important features. If you need to do online editing or value the ability to do tag cross referencing, you will want the Standard edition.
Important to note with that CPU, the RJ45 socket is NOT Ethernet. It is DH485 and there is 24 volts on one of the pins that will SMOKE your laptop Ethernet NIC if you mistake it for Ethernet.
A few weeks ago, I looked up the price of the RSLogix Micro Developer and Starter editions (not useful for a SLC) using Rockwell's ProposalWorks and it wasn't in the normal software selection list, but I could type in the part number. Today, ProposalWorks does not even recognize the part number for RSLogix 500 Starter which is 9324-RL0100ENE
An online store for a distributor lists it here:

That is more expensive than our Standard edition licenses we purchased many years ago. They are $crewing the remaining and future users of that product to force obsolescence.
Call your local Rockwell Software distributor and see if you can get a better deal. There is usually no markup or discount for software, but the online stores may deviate from that practice.
Just ran a across a thread at PLCTalk for a guy who is reselling some software including two versions of RSLogix 500:
