ASCII serial communication
I have a 1000 CPU. Connecting a pc from a db9 to the rs232 port on my 550 PLC. The string data from my ASCII in is garbage. I can connect the cable to my laptop running PUTTY and the data is correct. I have a 31 character string, no termination characters.
ive tried about everything, any ideas?
Have you tried byte swapping all characters?
Same result, tried all options

You mention your PC and your PLC, and PuTTY on your PC. Is there another device? Other software?
@Jeff S (Customer) Could you tell me which software revision you're running? In addition, please provide screen shots of the incoming ASCII data that is showing the special characters. If you're able to connect online with the CPU and generate a system report, please send that to me via PM.

I attempted to replicate this by sending ASCII data through Realterm from two separate sources — my PC and an additional P1-550 unit. Both tests returned correct data with no special characters present, so I have been unable to reproduce the issue you're experiencing.
Do you have another CPU that you could use to send ASCII data from to see if you can duplicate the issue?
I’ll have to see if I can do it from a laptop. What cable did you use? We originate on db9 but only 3 wires are passed to the rj12.
Is it possible grounding issue? Do you have all grounding connected correctly on the CPU?
