Windows 11 machine needs ipx protocol to communicate with T1H-EBC?
I'm trying to connect a windows 11 machine to an old remote i/o system where a T1H-EBC was replaced and the new one will not link to network. When I open net edit and try to switch to IPX i get windows socket error. Is there nan IPX patch for win11 machines?
IPX is not supported by Windows since XP, I think.
Q1. How are you using the T1H-EBC as an I/O slave? What is the Master?
Q2. Are you trying to assign it an IP Address using NetEdit? Configure I/O? You can use TCP/IP to assign an IP Address (NetEdit uses Broadcasts).
I have an ERM connected to a switch that has 6 remote i/o module slaves. A T1H-EBC was replaced and the new one doesn't communicate with the network. I can see them all in netedit3 and erm workbench.
The ethernet address is showing as the MAC address. When I right click the module to set the information the ip address is showing 255.255.255.255 and says this is invalid. This system was installed over 20 years ago and at that time I was using IPX and the MAC addresses.
Do I now need to assign an unique IP address to each slave module so I can use TCP for comms? Thank you for your assistance.
This is on a DL205 PLC system using the H2-ERM. I have a separate network on the same PLC with an ECOM running screens through hubs
You will have to use ERM Workbench to set it up. There should be a setup file somewhere " *.erm. "
The ERM and the EBCs all support IPX. So you don't actually need to assign any IP Addresses. The default (as you currently have) is to use IPX with the MAC Address (vs. using TCP w/IP Address).
I would print out the current ERM configuration before changing the ERM. Make sure you have all the details on the OLD slave in your print out.
Make sure your PLC is in PROGRAM mode. You cannot update the PLC's ERM module's configuration in RUN mode.
Then run ERM Workbench. You can skip the Wizard and just choose the one ERM that it finds. In the Wizard, hit the ERM Workbench button in the bottom left.
I would SAVE the current ERM configuration to a file before making any changes. If you are connected to the ERM and have read its configuration, all you have to do is select File->Save. At least you have the original ERM config in a file (that you could open in ERM Workebench later).
After saving the current config, hit the [2. Select Slaves] button.
Find the entry for the old slave in the ERMs Slaves List. REMEMBER ITS SLAVE # (1-16) Remove it.
Then select the new one based on its MAC address in the PC Network Slaves list (ERM workbench query can use UDP/IP - you just need the MAC address). Select that NEW one.
Hit the Add to Slave List.
Select the new one in the ERMs Slave List and hit Move Up/Move Down to get it to be the same Slave # as your old one (the print out should provide that detail if you forgot).
Once it's in the right position, hit the Configure button. Now configure that slave to match the configuration of the previous Terminator EBC slave based on the print out. Hit the Advanced button (Hot swap settings?) and configure that too.
Before writing it to the ERM. MAKE SURE ALL THE SLAVE'S V ADDRESSES LINE UP ON A SLAVE AND SLOT BASIS!!!! (along with the new one) EVERYTHING must match EXACTLY. Every V, every X, every Y every C (if you use V40xxxx mapping) of EVERY Module in EVER SLOT of EVERY slave.
Your NEW T1H-EBC should be INSTALLED with the existing I/O - i.e. replaced the OLD one, before starting the configuration steps. Make sure you are in PROGRAM mode before doing any of this.
Thank you sincerely for the inputs. My time was limited in this case and I need to re-read the ERM manual. This system was installed 25 years ago and although I connect into the ECOM network periodically for program updates to the PLC and screens, only once before about 10 years ago did I have to change an EBC at which time I was running XP and IPX would allow me to edit the module. So, I need to read and review some old drawings as well.

Well, the plot thickens. I have all the slaves identified and proper addresses allocated but ERM workbench does not see the ERM. I can't read from it and I can't write to it.
I have a patch cable from my pc to the network switch. When I try to write the file to the ERM it wants to use UDP/IP. Since IPX is no longer supported with windows does this mean that I now have to communicate to ERM (write the setup file) using UDP/IP and assign an IP address to the ERM?
