Sticks (Customer) asked a question.
Durapulse GS20 (*GS23-2010) What wiring for dual control?
I am using the Durapulse GS20 on a Centroid Hickory bed mill conversion.
The Factory wiring for the mill had controls on the head
Auto/Manual switch
Fwd/Rev switch
Rheostat for speed control
Analog sweep meter for estimated speed.
Estop
With the parameters set per the Centroid Tech Bulliten, and the wiring provide by Centroid, and the OE Toshiba VF-S7 manual (attachments) and the OE wiring for the mill head and VFD,
How would I wire these switches in to work in conjunction with the CNC control, and are there any additional parameters that will need to be changed?
Well, that's a simple question.
You will need to find the similar function or parameter of each and make the appropriate change.
Looks like fun.
As far as wiring, yes, the GS20 has digital inputs to accept the signals from your switches, can accept your rheostat (potentiometer) signal for speed control, has STO terminals for your E-Stop function, and has an analog output for your "estimated speed" meter. The connections are all shown and explained in the GS20 manual. As far as configuration goes, yes, the GS20 must be configured to match your motor and all your controls. The digital inputs must be configured to assign their function. The analog output must be configured to match your meter's mode (voltage or current) and your scaling. All of the config settings are listed and explained in the GS20 manual.
Everybody assumes that I have the full understanding of the terminology and functions of a VFD. Installing and utilizing these devices is not my specialty. It is a component that weeded to be installed for a CNC mill conversion. Reading the manual I can do and have done. Understanding and being able to extrapolate the solution for my question...If I could do that, I would not have posted the question.
I know a little on how to use the CNC mill. Again not my specialty. I can design the parts that I need fabricated, and set up the stock in the machine for 3 axis milling.
Diagnosing and repairing Engines, Hydraulic systems, Heavy equipment controls, repairing or fabricating structural components...That is my field.
While I hate spoon feeding people on how to do things, I can recognize when a person just needs the answer detailed so they can get on with what ever they are doing. Right now I am that person that needs this and one more question answered so the machine can be put to work.
What have you done?
Do you have an electrician involved?
Did you make the changes per TB13?
Are you using the Factory Head controls?
Do you have the parameter settings of the Toshiba?
Have you made the relevant parameter changes to the GS20?
What doesn't work?
Tom@Pton - The OP has the answers to all of these questions, aside from specifying the service bulletin as TB318. There is no TB13 as you stated.
Attachments in the OP are the TB318, Toshiba manual, and the Centroid wiring schematic.
I am the electrician. I work with mobile concrete batch plants and their control systems (480 3ph, starters, contractors, and the control system) when they breakdown.
Only the parameters outlined in the above TB318 have been changed from Factory.
The new Hickory CNC system is 98% wired in and works aside from integrating the OE head controls for auto/manual, speed control, and the gauge. Those are not even hooked up. Estop button, and the spindle brake limit switch are hooked into the estop system.
I work 10 days on, and 4 off away from home (different state) So I only get to look at this project and make any adjustments every other weekend for a couple days.
IDK how I got TB13...lack of typing skills maybe.
So the only thing lacking is the connection to the OE head controls?
Sorry, I hear the frustration in your response. It is hard to know the areas of expertise of people posting questions. And even harder to fully understand the actual application to be able to give a complete list of VFD parameter settings or detailed wiring. It is easiest to answer a specific, detailed question, about wiring a device to the VFD, or the function of a VFD parameter for example. This type of project does require much time, not only to "get it working", but to also to "tune the system" and document the changes. If you do not have the time, or the desire to dive into this, since this not your area of work, try reaching out to one of Automation Direct System Integrators.

Here's a start. There are questions to answer about the signal type for the RPM Meter, how should the drive respond to DI3 being activated (jog Forward, or other?) and a few other things left to sort out. I think the control wiring attached with the GS20 terminals in red should be right.
