ScottRyan (Customer) asked a question.

Acceptable touchscreen monitors for EA9-RHMI.

I have a project coming up and would like to try the EA9-RHMI, but I am having a hard time tracking down what touch screen monitor to use. I am looking for something in the 20-24" range. If you have used a particular monitor in the past please send me the model.

Thanks, Scott

Short Answer: see page 2-7 in the user manual: https://cdn.automationdirect.com/static/manuals/ea9rhmim/ch2.pdf

Customers may have some other suggested monitors they have used. Hopefully they will chime in.

    Long Answer:

I know this is less than a desirable approach. Our first advice was to contact the manufacturer and ask them if them if the monitor worked with the eGalax pCap driver. But we have had Advantech give the wrong answer before.

It is frustrating that the manufacturers do not spell out what driver is required. But this is because they are expecting these to be connected to a PC and not a third party device.

Windows 10 is plug and play for most monitors today.

The key I have is to look and see if there is a driver download for the monitor. If there is not, you can bet on it is intended to work with a Windows PC driver only.

If there is a driver download available, download it and install it on your PC. In the installation process look at the text in the installation windows and see if it says who the driver is from. I have seen these where they show EETI eGalax. If it is not clear, after installing the driver, plug the USB touch screen from the monitor into the PC. Go to the PC Device Manager and see what the touchscreen shows up as. It should show EETI eGalax if it is.

Looking at some monitors as examples recently listed in a customer inquiry:

ELO 2201L: This depends on the configuration. IT comes in both Intelletouch SAW and Protective Capacitance. EA9-RHMI only supports Resistive and SAW in the ELO Monitors, no Protective Capacitance. So the E107776 would work, but the E497002 would not.

Advantech FPM-121W: When you go to the Downloads page on the Advantech site, https://www.advantech.com/search/?q=FPM-121W&st=support

there is no Driver download. We have customers who have tried the FPM-1xxx and they work with a PC but not the RHMI.

Advantech FPM-221W: This one is listed i the manual. I have tested this and it works great. Notice the Downloads page, https://www.advantech.com/search/?q=FPM-221W&st=support&sst=Driver

there is a driver for the FPM-2xxW. If this were installed on a PC you can readily see it is EETI eGalax.

    Tru-Vu ZBMT-21.5 Series:

I tested the ZBMT-18.5-R and it is listed in the manual as compatible. But talking with Tru-Vu it seems they mix-up eGalax and ELO on their resistive touchscreen side, but I am not sure on the pCap side. They have no drivers to download. So the best bet is to contact them and double check what driver they require. If they say, just let the PC use the PC driver, chances are it is not going to work.

I wish there was a better answer. The CE Operating System in the EA9-RHMI really limits the drivers that are available.

I strongly recommend that customers buy try and return if needed when it comes to monitor selection.

I cannot guaranty anything without the monitor in front of me, but that monitor should work fine since it uses the SAW touchscreen. I suggest you understand their return policies just in case.

I 'liked' this response, but I think that it deserves more of a complement than a 'like' can indicate!

Thank you for the well-stated description of how you (et al.) have determined some compliance/support.

I should have mentioned that our own Atlas monitors work, and Hope Industrial monitors work, they use ELO Resistive touchscreens and are reasonably priced. I would double check with them before purchasing.

Has anyone here used the Hope monitor? Any problems or issues?

  • z28z34man (Customer)

i have used Hope industrial monitors before and haven't had any issues with the monitor but i am using wonderware not a EA9-RHMI.

The USB touch dosen't make its way through a KVM switch so i had to run a separate USB extender but that shouldn't matter in your situation

I wanted to give you guys an update. I did end up buying the ET2201L Elo Touch Monitor, PN: E107766. This screen DID work for me. It took a few minutes for me to figure out how to calibrate the screen, but after that flawless like every Cmore product I've used. I hope this helps someone else.

Thanks for the update. Glad it worked out.

      Hello ScottRyan...

I am experiencing a problem connecting a an older discontinued ELO Monitor to a RHMI device... my ELO Monitor has a resistive

touch screen... everything works except the Touch Screen"... please forward your solution or process of making your ELO Monitor work for your project.

      Thank You...
